We’re nothing without the incredible individuals who make up our hardworking team. In an effort to recognize each member of our team and spotlight their unique stories, we’re going to be highlighting a different team member every month to share a bit more of who they are.
This month, we’re spotlighting Stan Naspinski, who works as a Senior Software Engineer on our team! Read on to learn more about Stan’s time in the military, what drew him to join our team, and how he likes to spend his time outside of work.
Describe your experience before joining the Emergent Software Team
This is a long one! I first began my career path by earning a Computer Science degree at the University of Minnesota and then joined the Air Force as a Computer Systems Officer in network security in Georgia. While in Georgia, I earned my MBA in an online program. After I left the Air Force, I worked for 13 months in Kuwait for the Army doing SharePoint admin/programming, followed by 13 months in Baghdad with General Dynamics doing .NET development (I spent a lot of time working 84-hour weeks – whew!). When I moved back to the US, I relocated to Tampa, FL to work on my master’s in Computer Science. During that time, I also remotely worked with General Dynamics on smaller contacts and spent a summer in Belgium writing code and doing systems admin for NATO.
Tampa ended up being too hot for me, so I moved back to Minnesota to work for Digital Cinema Implementation Partners doing full-stack engineering. After moving, I went to the University of Minnesota (again!) for my master’s in Software Engineering. I also re-joined the Air Force as a Reservist at Langley Air Force base and later moved to the Minneapolis Air Force Reserve Station as a Cyber Operations Officer. All of that experience landed me a spot on the Emergent Software team in April of 2020. Safe to say it’s been quite a journey!
What drew you to join Emergent Software?
I really was drawn to the ability to constantly work on new projects, which is something I really had missed from my days as a contractor (pure software maintenance wasn’t fun for me anymore). I really appreciate the flexibility and quality of my peers as well!
How do you fill your time outside of work?
Weightlifting is probably my number one hobby. I also am a big hockey and football fan, and am hoping to rejoin my hockey & beer league this winter. I’m a terrible Minnesotan – I didn’t learn to ice skate until I was 30 and living in Florida! I like to squeeze in as much time as I can at cabins, lakes, and oceans and have enjoyed my newfound COVID hobby of board games.
What is your favorite TV show?
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia!
Who was your childhood hero?
Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Where in the world would you like to visit the most?
New Zealand!
Thanks for sharing your story with us and being a fantastic member of our team, Stan! We’re so glad to have you on board. Stay tuned for future spotlights of the great people who make up Emergent Software!
